From research to practice

The research behind Mycelia Intelligence began with a fundamental question in applied mathematics: how do you solve large, structurally complex constraint problems efficiently — without needing a single system to hold everything in memory at once?

The answer, developed over several years in collaboration with leading academic institutions across the UK, was decomposition. Break the problem along its natural seams. Solve the pieces. Coordinate the results. The mathematics is elegant; the implications for decision-making in organisations are profound.

When we looked at how real organisations make decisions — particularly complex, high-stakes ones that span teams and time horizons — we recognised the same structure. The problem wasn't a lack of intelligence. It was a lack of coordination.

Mycelia networks are one of nature's most effective solutions to the coordination problem. They are decentralised, adaptive, and extraordinarily efficient — moving resources to where they are needed without central direction.

We chose the name because it captures our ambition: to build AI infrastructure that works the way the best networks do. Not by replacing human intelligence, but by making it more connected.

Our technical foundations are grounded in peer-reviewed research developed in collaboration with leading academic institutions across the UK. The core methods have been validated across a wide range of benchmark problems.

We remain committed to the rigorous, transparent style of research that produced our methods — and to building products that are explainable, auditable, and worthy of trust.

Mycelia Intelligence is an early-stage company. We are not yet widely deployed, and we are deliberate about that. We are working closely with a small number of partner organisations to ensure our tools are genuinely useful before we scale them.
